57 million strong

A new survey shows that blogs are more trusted than newspapers. I'd take that with a grain of salt, since most blogs, after all, depend on hardworking journalists for their grist.

It is, however, a testament to the real-time nature of blogging, and how quickly mistakes can be corrected -- and how easily readers can call bloggers on errors, contextual screwups, and matters of fact.

Transparency breeds trust.

Another interesting tidbit: 57 million people read blogs while about 55 million newspapers are sold every day. Since more than one person tends to read every newspaper, their total readership still exceeds that of bloggers.

But that gap is closing
