SunTrust implicated in housing scam on blacks
SunTrust, one of Atlanta's biggest banks, was named in a sweeping NAACP lawsuit filed last week in California. The lawsuit (story here) alleges that the banks set blacks up with subprime loans even when they qualified for more stable and traditional mortgages. No specific lending violations were cited. I think the NAACP has lost credibility the last few years over its inability to gauge shifting cultural tides. But this case, if it has merit, could shine a light on a real injustice.
